Spring Festival Starts
Seven days before the Chinese New Year, comes Xiao Nian. It marks the beginning of the Spring Festival as households prepare for the New Year Celebration. In Shenyang, people are busy shopping for the festival.
The festive spirit is particularly strong at the TaiYuan and Zhong commercial street or supermarkets where crowds of people arrived to pick up food and decorations for the festival. The street is home to a dozen of time-honored shops offering everything from tea to traditional handicrafts and etc.
As the most important festival in China, the Spring Festival season means businesses are booming. Despite the global economic slump, Shenyangers are still buying plenty of goods. It is the tradition to eat something sweet at Xiao Nian which falls on the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month. People anticipate a sweeter life in the coming year.
