Shenyang now administers 9 districts, 1 county level city and 3 counties, with a total area of 3495km2 and a population of 7.08 million.
The name of the city originates from its geographic setting on the northern side of the Hun River. Shenyang gives birth to the early culture of Liao River. It is one of the birthplaces of China. Shenyang Imperial Place is the most well-preserved palace extant in China besides Beijing imperial Palace, and Zhaoling mausoleum and Fuling mausoleum of Qing dynasty have been listed in the world culture heritage at July 1st, 2004. The modern relics include Marshal’s Mansion of Zhang Zuolin and his son Zhang Xueliang, CPC Manchurian Provincial Committee, old site where premier Zhou En-lai studied in youth, and “9.18” historic museum, etc. Famous Qipanshan scenic area, forest wild animals park etc. is charming and scenic. The most tellable thing is the “2006 International Horticulture Expo Garden of China” had been hold in the Botanical Garden in Shenyang.
